What Does CoolSculpting Treat?

Fat freezing technology has been shown to be effective on most areas of the body, making it a flexible treatment. CoolSculpting is an excellent fat removal solution for the abdomen, flanks (love handles), back, hips and thighs (saddle bags), fat and beneath the chin.

The CoolSculpting Procedure

CoolSculpting uses a unique FDA-cleared technology to selectively expose fat cells to freezing temperatures, which kills the fat cells. Once destroyed, the body sweeps the fat cells away through the channels of its natural elimination system. Because the cooling temperature is highly calibrated to effect only fat cells, other tissue cells are not susceptible to damage.

During the procedure, the CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the treatment area. As fat freezing temperatures are delivered, patients will feel a pain-free cooling sensation. Because the treatment does not produce significant discomfort, no anesthesia is needed.

The procedure can last between 1-3 hours, depending on the area being addressed. The number of treatments is variable and will depend on the area of concern the fat reduction goals.

At Ringpfeil Advanced Dermatology we offer both CoolSculpting and Sculpsure to our patients. Being one of the few offices in Philadelphia to offer both procedures, our expertly trained team of board-certified doctors can share the pros and cons of each device to help you decide the best treatment plan for you.

Downtime and Recovery after CoolSculpting

A great benefit of CoolSculpting is that no recovery time is needed. After the fat freezing session patients may experience some mild soreness around the treatment area. This is commonly accompanied by redness, and in some cases, slight bruising. However, these symptoms are minor and temporary and should not interfere with normal daily activities. Patients can return to their normal routines immediately.

Long-term positive results can be expected, providing a healthy lifestyle is maintained. Good eating habits and regular exercise can help increase the chances that the treatment is enduring.

Seeing the Results

After CoolSculpting, the body immediately begins the elimination process. As the dead fat cells are removed via the lymphatic system, a process that can continue for few months, the results will become more and more visible. Most patients begin to see noticeable improvement within a few weeks and can typically expect final results within 4 months. Additional fat reduction treatments may be scheduled to optimize results.

Ideal Candidates for CoolSculpting

For individuals seeking to sculpt specific areas of the body, CoolSculpting may an excellent option. The ideal candidate is generally healthy, eats well and exercises routinely, but still cannot get rid of unsightly bulges in problem areas. Because CoolSculpting is not an appropriate treatment for weight loss, candidates who are close to their ideal weight tend to benefit the most.
