Dermaplaning represents an advanced mechanical exfoliation technique designed to remove the upper layer of dead skin cells through a controlled scraping process.
The procedure involves the use of a #10 surgical scalpel and #3 surgical blade handle to gently remove the epithelial tissue of the stratum corneum. This process is painless and requires no downtime. It effectively stimulates and rejuvenates the skin tissue while also eliminating fine facial hair that can trap excess dirt and oil, leaving the skin feeling smoother and looking brighter. It’s important to note that the hair will grow back over time but will not become coarser, contrary to common belief. Dermaplaning refines the skin, enhancing the absorption of topical ingredients.
At Ringpfeil Advanced Dermatology, we frequently employ Dermaplaning as a standalone treatment or to enhance some of our most common procedures, such as chemical peels. The cost of this treatment is $130.
Dermaplaning is suitable for treating various skin imperfections and is generally safe and effective for most skin types. Ideal candidates include individuals with pigmentation irregularities or dull, congested skin. It may also be preferred by some patients who are not suitable candidates for chemical exfoliation or microdermabrasion, especially those with ethnic skin, as it is less likely to produce drastic changes in skin color.
Dermaplaning is particularly effective for women over 35 years old whose skin has lost some of its youthful hydration capacity. It is not recommended for men due to the nature of their facial hair. We strongly advise that Dermaplaning be performed by a trained professional as an in-office procedure. The recommended frequency for Dermaplaning is once a month for 3-4 months and as needed thereafter.
Dermaplaning has been featured in various media outlets, including the Real Housewives of NYC and The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda.
